Throggs Neck, NY – In the last home game of the 2004 season, the Privateers men’s soccer team scored two goals but were unable to defeat the Golden Eagles of Saint Joseph’s-Patchogue to pick up their first Skyline Conference win of the year. Freshman Nilton Ramirez (Queens, NY/Holy Cross) (Queens, NY/Holy Cross) picked up his third goal of the year and freshman forward Waylon Lunn (Canaseraga, NY/Canaseraga) III netted his first of the season.

 

Saint Joe’s put up five goals in the first half including a hat trick by senior forward Ricky Wrage (Selden, NY/Newfield), Wrage finished the game with four goals in total. In goal for the Privateers was freshman Matt Kavanaugh (Penfield, NY/Penfield) (Penfield, NY/Penfield) who made his first start at goalie since back on September 22^nd at Farmingdale. Kavanaugh had been starting at midfield since, but was forced to play goalie when freshman William Kopplin (Gales Ferry, CT/Ledyard) (Gales Ferry, CT/Ledyard) suffered a shoulder injury in a game earlier this week. Kavanaugh finished the game with six saves and eight goals against him, Kopplin started the game at defense instead and even picked up a shot on goal. The Golden Eagles used two goalies in this one with sophomore Mark Tripi  (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) picking up the win in the first half with five saves and no goals against him.

 

The Privateers will close out the season on Monday when they travel to Purchase, NY to take on the Valiants of Manhattanville College in a game that was originally scheduled to be the first game of the season but was postponed due to rain.
